My brother and I have birthdays one day apart and this is the first time in over 10 years we were able to celebrate together. To honor the occasion, we selected recipes from our father’s cookbook. For a kid friendly appetizer we had Mexican Cheese Dip and blue corn chips. My son sat in front of the dip and polished it off pretty quickly. The adults enjoyed the Stone Crab Claws. The cracking took a little time but so worth it.
For dinner, we had Asparagus with Hazelnuts, steamed broccoli, Grecian Bison Ribeyes, and potato rolls. We ended the night with a huge slice of Raspberry Cheesecake and popsicles for the kiddos. We did give our son some of the graham cracker crust dipped in raspberry sauce. He always wants to snag a piece of what Daddy is trying to eat.
At the end of the night, my daughter threw a surprise party for me and made a pinata out of a gift bag. We threw her a surprise party for her last birthday and she loved it so much that she wanted to throw one for me. She is such a sweetheart. The homemade version of a pinata was perfect for a kid to make on their own. One hit and the candy went flying everywhere. Luckily, we did not break a thing in our living room.
If you are celebrating a special night, I highly recommend the menu we chose. Do a lot of the prep work ahead of time so you can relax and enjoy the evening.
