Sloppy Joes
Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: low 8- I0 hours; high 3-4 hours
2 pounds ground chuck
1 small onion, finely, chopped
1 small green pepper, cored, seeded and chopped
1 (12-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon chili powder (adjust for taste)
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Brown beef in skillet over medium high heat; drain fat. Put in cooker and add the onion, green pepper, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, pepper and garlic powder. Stir thoroughly. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours or on high 3 to 4 hours. Yield: 6 servings
Note: This old standby is leaner and healthier if you use ground chuck instead of hamburger and make your own sauce.
