Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons local, sourwood honey
  • 1 tablespoon organic cinnamon
  • 1 cup of spring water
  • 1 organic apple
  • 1 1/2 limes, peeled
  • 1 1.5 inch slice of fresh pineapple
  • 1 handful kale
  • 2 beet green tops, optional
  • 1 package of organic peaches, frozen
  • 1 package of organic strawberries, frozen
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger puree or fresh
  • 6 or 7 dates

Since the pollen count is so high this spring, I wanted to make a smoothie to decrease the symptoms from our allergies. Luckily, we do not have the headaches and other sinus problems this year. Cinnamon and Honey are known to help and prevent sinus infections so I loaded this smoothie up with 4 tablespoons of local, sourwood honey and one tablespoon of fresh, organic cinnamon.

I added fruits and vegetables known to fight inflammation. Kale, pineapple, peaches, apple, lime, ginger, and beet greens. I added dates for the sweetness, a banana for the potassium and smoothness, and strawberries for the vitamins and antioxidants. Berries are rich in Vitamin C. I used organic fruit and vegetables since most of these are in the Dirty Baker’s Dozen.

To make, add 1 cup of spring water to the Vitamix. Core and slice the apple and throw it in to make apple juice. Then add all the other ingredients. Blend until smooth. Taste to see if you need more honey. You can add more Cinnamon too.

Enjoy!
