With the holidays upon us, we all want to add some cheer to our lives and create traditions. Sometimes all you need is a quiet evening sitting by a roaring fire with a fun cocktail and a board game. My daughter can play Monopoly all night long and be content. It is the little things that make kids happy.
Unfortunately, adults have a harder time unwinding after being stuck in traffic and trying to finish the long to-do list of the day. A glass of wine or a soothing cocktail can help you relax. It may brighten the day of that grumpy uncle.
For the kids, serve them some of the honey syrup with a little lemon juice and a slice of lemon. They will love the fancy drink and have no idea it is helping them fight or get over a cold and sore throat!
1) Make the Honey Syrup: The honey syrup is one part honey and one part water. To start, add 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of local honey in a saucepan and heat on medium until the honey has dissolved.
2) Make the Drink: Mix 1.5 oz Anejo Tequila, .5 oz Mezcal, 1.5 oz Grapefruit juice, .5 oz honey syrup, 2 dashes of Grapefruit bitters, and 1 dash of Back to Organic Smoked Salt. Shake and pour over ice in a glass rimmed with the Smoke Salt. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.
James Letendre from The Optimist developed this Smoky Westside drink with Back to Organic Smoked Applewood Pacific Salt. You can bring in my salts and ask him to create a custom drink for you as well. Here is his contact information. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
